Mamet: i think that one of the things i´ve always been good at, is cutting. and that always seemed to me the mark of a serious dramatist. someone who knows how to cut, someone who is more dedicated to the project as a whole than falling in love with a great scene.


Q: so many writers fear of getting rid of something cause they never know if they are gonna be hit again by lightning in that way. and that never happens to you at all?

Mamet: no.

Q: it´s as if you have never felt that moment, i mean...

Mamet: no.

Q: not even as a young writer?

Mamet: no. oh god, no. because if one really wanted to perpetuate the gods the best way to do it would be to understand their requirements.

Q: which is what?

Mamet: well, they want you to cut.
